Londa est un village riche en histoire, qui se trouve dans la vallée formée par les torrents Rincine et Moscia. Londa fût habité depuis l’époque étrusque et après acquise par les Romains. Au Moyen-Âge la ville était sous la domination des Comptes Guidi, Seigneurs du Casentino, pour passer ensuite sous les Médicis. Les confins actuels remontent au XVIIIeme siècle, lorsque plusieurs hameaux furent réunis ensemble. Partiellement détruite dans la dernière guerre mondiale, Londa a connu dans le passé une période de dépeuplement du à l’émigration en ville, pour retourner à accroître sa population dans les dernières années. Aujourd’hui y vivent 1700 personnes environ, qui presque doublent en été grâce à un tourisme qui est actuellement en plein essor. À voir: Le pont à l’entrée du village qui remonte au 1871 et le pont médiéval sur le torrent Moscia; Place Umberto I, avec la fontaine projetée par Tito Gori, l’Hôtel de Ville et l’Église de la Sainte Conception. Dans les hameaux de la Commune: les Églises de S.Leolino a Monte et de S.Lorenzo à Vierle (toutes les deux datant du XIIIème siècle) et la très belle Paroisse de S.Elena à Rincine, où se trouve une Vierge de l’école du Della Robbia. A visiter aussi le Parc National des Forêts du Casentino aux alentours. Fête de Septembre: Avec la construction du lac, on a essayé, à partir des années soixante, de valoriser la ville même du point de vue touristique et de développer son économie. Pour cette raison fût instituée la Festa di Settembre, qui favorisait la “Reine de Londa” (une pêche à la chair blanche et maturation tardive). Ensuite on a organisé des manifestations qui sont désormais devenues traditionnelles (montgolfière, compétition gastronomique, parachutistes) et qui sont proposées toutes les années dans le cadre d’un programme qui offre aussi du théâtre, beaucoup de musique ainsi qu’une soirée dédiée à la renaissance. Londa is a little village rich in history, which lies in the valley shaped by the torrents Rincine and Moscia. It has been inhabited since the Etruscan time, later conquered by the Romans. During the Middle Age it was under dominion of the Counts Guidi, Seigniors in Casentino; later it was ruled by the Medici. Today’s boundaries date back to the 18th century, when the different hamlets were gathered. Partly destroyed during World War II, Londa become depopulated because of emigration towards the cities and only in the last few years the population increased again. Today it has about 1700 inhabitants, who almost redouble during the summer, thanks to growing tourism. Sights: The bridge at the entrance of the centre (1871) and the medieval bridge on the Moscia; Umberto I Place with a small fountain by Tito Gori, the town hall and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. In the surroundings: the churches of St. Leolino (1200), St. Lorenzo in Vierle (13th century), the wonderful parish church St. Elena in Rincine, with a Madonna by Della Robbia school. National Park (Foreste Casentinesi). In September: After the construction of the artificial lake, during the sixties it has been tried to increase the flow of tourists and the local economy, also through the institution of the Festa di Settembre, created to promote a typical kind of peach - the Queen of Londa (late peach with white pulp). During the years other shows, which now belong to tradition, joined the competition among the farmers (hot-air balloons, gastronomic contest, parachutists) and the programme is enriched every year thanks to historical processions, theatre plays, concerts, and so on.
